Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. I come from Jiangning Senior High School. Today I am much honored to stand here to talk about the topic “Best friends”. I will divide the instuction into six parts: they are the analysis of the teaching material. Teaching aims, teaching important and difficult points, teaching methods and aids. Teaching procedures and summary. Part 1 The analysis of teaching material The topic is selected from Fun with English 8A Unit 1. The teaching content is from Page 8 to page 9. The main idea of the topic is how to describe friends in this unit. This part concludes not only reading skills, but also grammar, vocabulary and important language points. In this reading part, there are three entries. Three teenagers describe their friends’ qualities. The reading material is very close to students and all of the students have something to say, so the reading is a good sample to show how to describe their best friend. Part 2 Teaching aims: Knowledge aims: 1 To learn to use an adjective before a noun or after a linking verb to describe someone or something. 2 To learn some adjectives and phrases to describe friends. Ability aims: 1 To improve the students’ reading skills, such as skimming and scanning 2 To learn how to describe friends’ appearance and characteristics and compare with others. Emotional aims: 1 To foster the students’ correct cognition on friends. 2 To treasure friendship between friends. Part 3 Teaching important and difficult points Important points: 1 Some new words, phrases and sentences 2 the structures and usages of adjectives Difficult points: How to use adjectives and phrases to describe friends’ appearance and chracteristics. Step2 Presentation 1 T: I have a good friend. Do you want to know him ? What do you want to know about her? 2 Show a picture. Describe my good friend. Introduce some new expressions, such as “shoulder-length, slim, tall, be willing to, have a good sense of humor, feel bored” (Purpose: To clear away obstacles of new words) Step 3 Fast reading T: “ Teenagers’ magazine is holding a writing competition. Some students have written some entries for it. Please read and find out their main qualities. Betty: generous, helpful Max: humorous, funny May: true, kind ( Purpose: To develop the skills of skimming and how to gain the main idea of the articles) Step 4 Reading for details Complete the table after reading their entries once more. Name Betty Max May Appearance slim; short hair tall; poor eyesight (wear glasses) small; straight, shoulder-length hair; pretty Personality generous; helpful have a good sense of humor; funny true; kind What does he/she do? willing to share things with friends; ready to help people at any time e.g. … tell funny jokes and always make others happy; long legs do not fit under the school desks can keep a secret; never say a bad word about anyone ( Purpose: To develop the skills of scanning and how to gain the details from the articles.) Step 5 Retell 1 T: So we have got a table about them. And you have known a lot about them. Can you say sth about them according to the information in the table. 2 Ask the students to have discussion according to the table. Ask the students to retell the articles according to the table. (Purpose: To develop the skills of retelling with the key words) Step 6 Summary T: Well, when we describe out friends, we also need to describe what he or she is like. What kind of words can we use?---Adjectives. Eyes, nose: big, small Face: round, square Body: thin, strong, slim, fat, tall, short Hair: short, long, straight, circled, shoulder-length Personality: generous, helpful, humorous, funny, true, kind (Purpose: To give the students a clear idea of how to describe friends.) Step 7 Consolidation 1 Ask the students say something about their own friends using what we have learnt today. (Purpose: Through describing friends, Remind students how to make true friends and how to treasure their friendship) Step 8Homework Write an article about your best friend: Why is he/ she your best friend? Part 6 Summary During my teaching, I’ll try my best to get my class alive and encourage the students to promote cooperation and communication with each other. I’ll always remember the general aim of English teaching is to cultivate the students’comprehensive ability of using English. And I’ll use this to guide my teaching. That’s all. Thanks for listening.
